FIGURATIVES FIGURE
Still the most
popular genre , as well as the one most easily appreciated , Figuratives figure
prominently in the Indian art scenario . Always attracted to them , JAMAAT is delighted to present FIGURATIVES FIGURE . A
group show of artists from all over rthe country , doing work in different styles ,
mediums , and expressions, but all in the same figurative genre .
RINI DHUMAL Baroda based , Bengali by birth ,
international in outlook ,Rini has a strong style sense . Portraying very traditional
Indian men and women , with almost a folk art interpretation but with a powerful
contemporary feel . Working on paper , she uses various mediums like ink , pastels ,
acrylics , watercolours , gilt . The texturing is amazing and the line work brilliant .
NAINA KANODIA Naina has mastered the Naive art
form and taken it to another level . Beautiful pictures in exquisite detail showing formal
figures in tapestried backgrounds . With a sense of fun about them her paintings make you
smile . Based in Bombay , Naina works on paper and canvas .
SHUBHA GOKHALE Bombay
based , Pune educated Shubha has developed a very striking series of paintings based on
Puppets . Firmly believing that we are all merely Puppets playing in the hands of a Master
Puppetiere , Shubha executes these paintings in an inimitable style . Her works on canvas
are a montage of fabric and paint . Faces with fixed expressions . Body language takes
over , as these figures dance and tell their story . But the reverse paintings on glass
are the true jewels . Using several layers of glass with a backdrop of fabrics , a true
puppet theatre is created .
FATIMA AHMED Fatima paints the most sublime works .
Subtle tonalities of the same colour . The figure barely visible , but very present .
Fatima's figures are what makes art great . Based in Pune , Fatima is constantly on the go .
AMRUTRAJ KOBAN Coming
from Latur originally ,now settled in Bombay , Amrutraj has come a long way . Putting the
horrors of the earthquake well behind him , Amrutraj has moved from his village children
and Klimt inspired figures to paint the most exquisite Budhas . One could spend hours in
front of the sublime Figure and have calm and tranquility wash over you . A must for every
home and work space , these figures would spread peace all over the world . Working with
acrylic on canvas , with warm and jewel tones .
ANAND PANCHAL Also from Latur and now
in Bombay , Anand too has taken great strides ahead . Moving from village folk to splended
horses and elephants , Anand now finds his muse in the Devis - the powerful and loving
Godesses . They give strength to whoever beholds them . Worked with acrylic on canvas ,
they are dramatically framed in metal .
VIJAY BELGAVE
Again from Latur , but now in Bombay . Vijay paints in a Modgialani style . Beautiful
, elongated torsos in oil on canvas , stunningly framed in old wood .
GAUTAM and CHAITALI MUKHERJII This
Bengali duo ,now in Bombay , have very different style . Gautam is the family man , having
a highly stylised Bengali style , portraying loving couples and happy families . He works
on both paper and canvas using acrylic paint . Chaitali is single minded in her portrayals
of women . Working on paper , she uses a single sized brush . This gives her work an
amazing texturing .
