The world is seen in sharp contrasts. Clear lines demarking parameters . But life is not ike that . Most things fall in the area of greys . There are shades of facts , A perhaps-ness , to all things .Specially in this season of the rains , where grey skies , silver streaks of lightning and black shiny roads greet us each day .

It is also a time of passing , where great artists like Tyeb Mehta and Michael Jackson  have moved on .

With this mood in mind , a mood to think and retrospect , we bring you BLACK & WHITE . A show of paintings by several artists , who have painted using these colours . In their own distictive style , in their own special medium . All reflecting this mood .

ABHIMANYU RAY

A brilliant artist , Abhi felt his calling for art very early in life and was blessed to follow this dream . He has had several successful shows in Bombay and Delhi  A diligent artist, he spurns modern technologies like computers with advanced softwares, instead , using  fine nibbed pens for his exquisite drawings . A philosophical artist , his works show the several options one has in life .  A fine artist , he brings passion to his work .

AJAY DE

Black & white is Ajay's natural oeuvre . Charcoals on paper are his prefered medium . His mastery in controlling the charcoal , the play of white and black . The expressive eyes , the soft , gentle faces , the compassionate figures , all highlighted by a hint of colour . Ajay is well know in the art world , and has shown globally with great success . A modest man , a happy person, an excellent artist .

A.V.ILANGO

Ilango has a great sense of movement in his paintings . A flair in his strokes . Using a pallette knife to apply acrylic paint on canvas , he moves across the space with boldness . From his series of "Dancers" , he has created these masterful pieces in Black & White , showing the exuberance of life and the energy of dance . Ilango is a global artist with galleries all over the world .

KRISHNA PULKUNDWAR

Krishna is greatly influenced by the environment around him . Coming from a small village in Maharashtra , now living in big bad Bombay , he harks back to his early days with nature as his inspiration . Krishna then juxtaposes this with the windows and doors through which things are viewed in the city . The geometrics framing the iterpretation of nature . All done in the abstract form . Working with acrylic on canvas . The monsoon has inspired these renditions in black and white . Krishna is a young artist who has already made his mark in the art world with buyers from all over the world .

NANDITA BADIANI

A young artist , Nandita studied art in New York and has been fascinated by it as a child . Inspired by everything around her - people , nature , life . Using mixed media on paper , she has created these striking portraits with a strong expression .

SAMIR MONDAL

India's master water colourist , known for bright colours has created this very unusual work in shades of grey , a mix of black & white , with just touches of colour . With this limited pallette , Samir is able to bring all the expressiveness in the face . The water colour flow and dance to his tune , creating a stunning work of art . Samir needs no introduction in the art world . World renowned , his works are well loved globally .

SHIVA SANJARI

Shiva is Iranian born and  Bombay based artist . Her global training and international exposure is obvious in he work . She thinks deeply and then creates with a freedom born of confidence . The tilt of the head , the toss of the hair , the glittering metal necklace . Unafraid to play with materials , Shiva has created this wonderful painting using charcoal on paper with metal foil . She has worked and shown in Paris , Tehran and Bombay . A must see artist .

V.SOLANKI

Solanki has such an enviable reputation of his black & white paintings , that he is the automatic artist one thinks of when looking for these colours . He uses a single haired brush with acrylic paint on canvas , and patiently builds up the strokes to give us these exquisite paintings . So much love, so much time is lavished on these works . Always showing his beloved Kathiawadi people , with their elaborate clothing , the detailed embroidery , the flowing robes . The faces are always left blank , the expressions are in the body language between the figures. Solanki's distinctive style makes these paintings very desirable .

8 artists , 8 styles but just 2 colours . Black & White .

Come and see .
